v     Jan 2008:  Congratulations to Our neighbors in Pen Lucy! Thank you all for visiting the website during the campaign and voting for Baltimore!  The Change the World - Start at Home campaign, sponsored by HGTV and its non-profit partners, Rebuilding Together, the National Trust for Historic Preservation and the Natural Resources Defense Council announced the winning cities: Baltimore, MD, Denver, CO, New Orleans, LA, Twin Cities, MN, Washington D.C.  Pen Lucy will be transforming vacant lots into public green spaces and adding planter boxes along Old York Road.  Also, on their 'to do list' is a wheelchair ramp, new paint & awnings, decent signage, new doors & windows, a resurfaced courtyard & a clean and dry basement. In partnership with Rebuilding Together Baltimore, and with support from the Community Mediation Program, HGTV will invest over $80,000 in CMP and the surrounding area. www.rtbaltimore.org

·        A thank you note from CARES:."the GEDCO staff and volunteers have gotten very good reception for businesses along York Road to Cares Collection Boxes in a program which they have initiated.  So far the following businesses have agreed to let us place collection boxes for the pantry (canned & dry goods) in their stores: Advance Auto Parts, Calvert Plumbing & Heating, Fields Old Trail, Greg's Bagels, Homeopathic Pharmacy, L&K Insurance, Little Caesar's, Park's Auto Service, Raw Sugar, Score, Sally's Beauty Shop, Sweet Papaya, and United Optical.  The summer has been especially tough for the pantry as many in our congregations have been out of town and attendance at places of worship are down.  The support of GBA members to help in this time of need is very much appreciated."

  • Laura Penza (Penza Associates Architects, Homeland resident) has been selected this year as one of Maryland's Top 100 Women by The Daily Record.  Established in 1996, this annual award program recognizes one hundred of Maryland's leading women who are making an impact on our state.  "I share this honor with my ?Top 2' women, Louise Harris and Helene Perry."
  • Tom Kiefaber (The Historic Senator Theater, Belvedere Improvement resident) was featured on the front page of the Baltimore Messenger, week of May 19, 2005, in a wonderful photograph and article regarding "Star Wars, Episode III - Revenge of the Sith." It discussed the opening of the movie, the exuberant fans of "Star Wars," the fans of both The Senator Theater and Tom, himself (respectfully, called "Kiefather"). (link)
